Hurricane Irma Cleanup

March 27, 2018, ClimeCo Corporation encourages its employees to volunteer their time and give back to those in need. Derek Six, ClimeCo’s Senior Vice President, had an opportunity to go with his spouse and 19 other volunteers on a relief trip from St. John to Jost Van Dyke, a British Virgin Island. The island had suffered massive damage from Hurricane Irma in September, which was a category 5 hurricane.

“St. John was badly damaged. It was great to see this team of US residents who just jumped on a boat to help others even worse off than themselves,” said Six. “The island has come a long way since the hurricane, but things are not back to normal yet.”

Arranged by Love City Strong, Inc. (www.lovecitystrongvi.org) and Kenny Chesney’s Love for Love City Foundation (www.loveforlovecity.org), the volunteers delivered mail, helped clean up the beaches, assisted residents with repairs and salvaged boats that had been beached or capsized during the storm. Sadie Sea Charters (www.sadiesea.com) was gracious enough to transport the team and mail to Jost Van Dyke during the relief trip.

“We met so many great people and saw how much these islands are working together to help each other recover,” said Six. “It was unbelievable! One of the boats we dug up from the beach was able to be put back in the water, and it ran! The owner of the boat was so happy because it is critical to his dive shop operation on the island. He had lost his shop during the hurricane.”
